6 Upcoming Films to Watch This Year

Despite some of the obstacles we're already having to face this year, we've managed to make it through the first two months of 2017 and that's an achievement on its own. One way I like to escape from reality, and all the chaos going on, is to put on a good film and raid my sweet cupboard. This year I'm going to take it up a notch by going to the cinema more often and with there being so many new releases to choose from, I don't think I'm going to find it very difficult to find something interesting to watch.

Here are just a few awesome films we've got coming up over the next six months that you may want to add to your watch list!

films to watch in 2017

Hidden Figures

From the first time I saw the trailer for this I knew it was something not to missed! It's based on a true story about three African-American female mathematicians who worked at NASA helping with the first successful space mission in the 60s. The nerd in me loves the sound of this and I'm glad it highlights important topics like women in STEM fields and racial diversity.

Release date: 17th February

Beauty and the Beast

Now I know I won't need to tell you what this will be about because it's only one of the best Disney stories EVER being remade into a live action film! Belle was my favourite Disney character growing up with her loves for books and thirst for knowledge being the two main aspects of her personality that I could relate to. I've seen a few clips online of Emma Watson as Belle and I think she's going to do the role and herself justice.

Release date: 17th March

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Anyone else a GOTG fan? If you are then you'll be happy to hear that they are coming back with a sequel film featuring the adorable baby groot! It's set a few months after the first film so we get to see the team go on more adventures together as the unconventional family that they are, as well as finding out more about Peter Quill's aka Star Lord's human past. I really enjoyed the first film so I hope this one will be just as good if not better!

Release date: 28th April

Wonder Woman

There are two specific reasons why I think you should watch this film: it's been a while since we've had a superhero film with a female lead and this is also the first superhero film to be directed by a woman - what's not to like? Besides that, the story line doesn't sounds too bad either!

Release date: 2nd June

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets

I love a good sci-fi film and this one caught my eye a few days ago after watching the trailer on YouTube. Based on a french comic book series it features two space travel agents, Valerian and Laureline, who's job it is to look after all intergalactic cities in the universe ensuring all are protected from danger. We see them inspect a particularly advantaged city that could jeopardise mankind and follow them on their mission to save them from those trying to harm them. Sounds good right?

Release date: 21st July

Battle of the Sexes

I don't know exactly when this film will be released in the UK as it hasn't been stated yet but as it will be sometime this year I thought I would still add it to the list. It's loosely based on the tennis match between Billie Jean King and Bobby Riggs back in 1973 which became one of the most watched televised sports events ever and we also get to discover what was going on with each of them outside the court! It features two of my favourite actors, Emma Stone and Steve Carell, so as well as it sounding like an entertaining film I'm excited to seeing these two working together again.

Words can't express how excited I am for Beauty and the Beast though! I just know I'm going to cry as soon as I heard Tale As Old As Time. That song means so much to me.
